The American Bullnese is generally a hardy and healthy breed. It like any other breed has concerns in which to watch out for, ecspecially if you are planning breeding.
Major Concerns: stenotic nares, elongated soft palate, intervertebral disc degeneration, hemi vertebrae
Minor Concerns: CHD, patellar luxation, entropion
Occasionally Seen: distichiasis, cataract, deafness
Average Life Span: 9 – 11 years
Note: This breed does not tolerate heat as well many other longer nosed breeds
American Bullnese do well in hot climates like Florida and Texas. One only needs to use some sense and not expose one’s Bullnese to extreme conditions.
